“We’ll be here all day,” says Sandra Cabanas who was at the 10 a.m. launch of the Material Girl collection with her 18-year-old daughter Chelsa. The two plan to go to lunch and come back to Macy’s at 5:30 for the dance party. Cabanas got Chelsa hooked on Madonna when she stared taking her to concerts at the age 6.
Also getting an early start are Sandy and 8-year-old Riley O’Brien. “The shoes and belts are the best,” says Riley, who came with her with mom, Sandy, a longtime Madonna fan. “I don’t really know her,” says Riley of Madonna’s daughter Lourdes (Lola), co-designer of the MG line. Everyone is happy when B-96’s Showbiz Shelly calls young Riley’s name as the winner of a Madonna-autographed T-shirt hopefully to replace the tiny bandeau given to the first 200 customers that morning.
Classmates Fallon Hartfield and Necynthia Spence are on an “extended break” from morning classes at nearby Everest College on State Street. “The prices are nice and great for going out,” Spence says of the collection.
Going out after class, that is.
