My Bio

Vinessa Russell- A fashion forward thinker- on paper and in person.
By Pauline Day

Q: What are three words that describe you.
A: Daring, chaotic, cute

Seemingly a walking contradiction, Vinessa is from suburbia — and yet finds herself inexplicably drawn to "urban wear." Although she was born in Chicago, Vinessa has lived in suburbs  — from Texas to New York, to New Jersey. Although the fashionista never grew up surrounded by the fashion trend that has begun to characterize urban cities, she declares proudly, "I am drawn to it. It allows you to express yourself and experiment."
But Vinessa does not want to pursue modeling, or designing, she wants to write. The paper and pen, as well as her outfit of the day, are how she expresses to the world her true passion for fashion. A recent addition to the Columbia Links high-school journalism program, Vinessa plans on honing her "writing skills" in order to become a fashion reporter, and eventually, a fashion magazine editor! With fashion inspirations like risk-taker Rhianna, it comes as no surprise that Vinessa has the eventual goal of creating her own magazine, "VIA," a title inspired by her sister. Family influence is no minor detail in the journalist's life, and she considers her mother "her writing inspiration."
At seventeen, Vinessa seems to to have her entire career path planned out, but for now, her focus is college. In the fall she will be attending either Columbia College, or UIC in Chicago, although after about a year, she plans on moving out to one of the arguably most fashionable states of the country, California! For now, she enjoys shopping at Forever 21, even making the daring statement, " Urban, more affordable store are better than high end ones!" When asked if without financial constraints she would still shop at the bargain store, she smiles and simply answers, "Yup."
With an outfit that screams "Look at me," and confidence that is unwavering, there’s no telling what damage this future fashionista will do — both on the runway (urban wear for the streets, that is) — and in the magazines.
