Ambitious Teen Wants Full Experience
Selenna Thomas of Chicago Tech Academy is just another 15 year old in the city of Chicago. Like most teen girls her age she follows carefully what her older sister, Deana, does. “For her 16th birthday she had a party at a hotel so I want to do something different but I want it at a hotel too,” says Thomas. She remembers her sister’s party as lacking key elements and says she wants to have a better experience of a hotel party when she turns 16. Surprisingly, Selenna not only aims high in her personal life but also at school too.
The Chicago Tech Academy sophomore was forced to enroll in her current school by her mother. “She wanted me to go to a smaller school so I wouldn’t fall behind,” recalls Thomas. But if she had it her way, Selenna would attend UIC College Prep. She wants to gauge the full high school experience and feels like that cannot be done at her current institution. Not only does Chicago Tech lack a football team, but also they are yet to have a school dance this year. Selenna, who just wants to get the most out of her teen years, feels that this is not how high school should be. She wants to be able to look back and have fond memories of full experiences.
